Dr. Modico is a postdoctoral fellow who provides individualized, evidence-based therapy for adolescents, young adults, and adults. He specializes in treating anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, phobias, ADHD, and executive functioning challenges.
Dr. James Modico believes that effective therapy is collaborative, practical, and tailored to each person's unique goals. He works closely with clients to understand the factors contributing to their difficulties while developing concrete skills to reduce symptoms and improve daily functioning. He values transparency throughout the therapeutic process and incorporates psychoeducation to help clients better understand themselves, their symptoms, and the rationale behind treatment interventions, empowering them to take an active role in their care.
His therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, supportive, and goal-oriented. Dr. Modico helps clients clarify their goals, build insight into unhelpful patterns, and develop practical strategies for creating meaningful change. He strives to create an environment where clients feel comfortable exploring difficult experiences, building confidence, and developing lasting skills for navigating life's challenges.
Dr. Modico integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing to provide personalized treatment grounded in the latest clinical research. He also has experience working with neurodivergent individuals, including those with ADHD and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and provides executive functioning support when appropriate.
Education & Training
Dr. Modico earned his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Prior to his doctoral training, he studied at Teachers College, Columbia University, and The Pennsylvania State University, where he developed a strong foundation in psychological research and evidence-based clinical practice.
Throughout his clinical training, Dr. Modico worked across university counseling, private practice, and community mental health settings, providing psychotherapy for adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, phobias, ADHD, and executive functioning concerns. He received specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), and other exposure-based treatments, while also integrating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing into his work.
His background as both a clinician and researcher allows him to thoughtfully integrate current psychological research with individualized, evidence-based treatment tailored to each client's unique needs.
